Today, the 1st of April, San Marino celebrates the Investiture of the Captains Regent. The ceremony protocol has been completely revisited according to the safety measures put in place by the Republic against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ceremony took place in the Hall of the Great and General Council at 11.00 am. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs Luca Beccari, in the presence of the elected Captains and Regent Captains, made a speech, followed by the greetings from the Vice-Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of Italy, Guido Cerboni and the Bishop of the Diocese of San Marino-Montefeltro, Mons. Andrea Turazzi.

In the last few weeks, San Marino’s community has been put to the test, but it is working together to fight the effects of COVID-19 virus. San Marino and the Honorary Consulate are committed to keep everyone safe and to ensure that our traditions remain alive in our hearts. The Republic of San Marino wishes to set an example for the whole world that, even in challenging and difficult times, democracy is possible and is at the heart of fast recovery.
Today’s ceremony represents that San Marino’s century-long traditions remain fully alive and demonstrates the world that, despite the COVID-19, the Republic of San Marino is proud to celebrate its democracy and freedom.
