On 22-24 October 2021, the Republic of San Marino was honoured to receive on an official visit the Rt Hon Theresa May MP, who received the prestigious Order of Saint Agatha at the highest rank: Grand Cross.
The order has been conferred to her about a year ago by the government of the Republic of San Marino, but the official award ceremony wasn’t possible to organise until now due to the Covid-19 restrictions in place.
The Republic of San Marino has recognised the Cav Grand Cross Rt Hon Theresa May MP’s merits not only as a former UK Prime Minister and a strong woman in the UK politics but as well in promoting and protecting the rights of women and girls worldwide.
During her visit, Cav Grand Cross May, also a testimonial of the Esharelife Foundation, was received first by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, HE Dr Luca Beccari, with whom they had a constructive meeting, during which both parties confirmed the friendly relations between the two countries and reaffirmed the ongoing work on further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as in the multilateral arena.
After that, Cav. Gr. Croce May was received in a public audience by the Captains Regent, Their Excellencies Francesco Mussoni and Giacomo Simoncini, during which she was conferred by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the Order of Saint Agatha. During this ceremony, Cav. Gr. Croce May highlighted the fact that the United Kingdom and San Marino are firm friends, share a common outlook on many of the great challenges which the world faces and have a common commitment to the values that define free and democratic societies.
Cav Grand Cross May’s visit marked the culmination of a series of visits of various high officials from the UK to San Marino during the month of October, which paved the way toward consolidating the legal framework for bilateral cooperation and boosting the socio-economic exchanges in a post Brexit era.
